I had one of those days that didn't quite go as planned. I took Isla to a new ballet class this evening and was told over the phone that it was from 5:00 - 5:45 pm and they should go in through the front door of the building, and would come out the back door. So I dropped her off and decided to run to Home Bargains to buy some cat food while she danced. They are doing road works in our town at the moment, for the next 3 months, and what should only be a five minute drive took me 20 minutes.
I then stood in the cat food aisle for way longer than I care to admit as I stared at all the options. I own 4 cats and they are rather finicky eaters. If I buy the fancy cat food, they eat it but it costs a fortune, so I tend to feed them Butchers because it's one of the few that comes in big tins and I can feed all of them for a meal with one tin. This works out less than half the cost of the normal cat pouches. Lately, they haven't really been eating the food that much and some mornings I come down and half of it is still in their bowls. They obviously have expensive tastes, so I stood in the shop and pondered all the cat food options. They don't like game, or trout or haddock and the mixed packs always come with something they don't like. In the end I just bought small packs of something new which means I now have to go back in a couple days to buy more as a normal size pack only lasts a couple days in our house and I'll have to do it all over again.
I then had to queue to pay. The queue was all the way down one of the aisles and took ages. When I finally got out of the shop, I was one minute late to pick Isla up and still had to get back to her dance studio. I messaged her quickly and at least going that way, there was no traffic and it only took me the five minutes to get back. I parked the car in Lidl's car park and crossed the main road and ran up to the studio door. They have giant windows at the back of the studio but they are covered in privacy film so you can't see in. I could hear the music and was relieved that I had made it on time. I went to text her and realised that I had left my phone in the car. I contemplated running back to get it but didn't want her to come out while I was gone, so I just stood and waited.
Right next to where I was waiting, there were two men with a souped-up BMW. They were playing with the indicator's which were doing all kinds of fancy flashes and they were revving the engine and taking photos of themselves and the car. It was one of those weird matt paint ones. That I think are supposed to look expensive but just look to me as if someone has painted them with undercoat and forgotten to put the finishing coat on. They were a little shady looking and I didn't want Isla to come out of the dance class and have to wait there by herself if I ran back to get my phone. After about 10 minutes, I decided to risk it in case Isla had messaged me. I ran back to the car and then back to the car park.
I began to think it was weird that there were no other parents picking up their children. I wondered if all the rest of them walked home by themselves? Eventually the men left and I snuck around their not-so-beautiful car to see if I could see anything. I figured out if I squatted down I could see feet. I found Isla's feet and figured she was still in there so I should just wait. It turns out, the class ended at 6:30 instead of 5:45 so I spent 45 minutes standing in a car park wondering when the heck the class was going to be over.
It was a great reminder of how important communication is. I should have checked what time she finished when I dropped her off. The lady should have told me exactly when to fetch her and I could have had a nice wander around TKMaxx alone instead of watching revving car men taking selfies.
My quote for today is by George Bernard Shaw, “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”
My photo for today is of me and the most disturbing snapchat filter yet. I'm pretty sure it's trying to communicate something, I'm just not quite sure what.
