It's late and past my bedtime and I'm tired. I had a good day. I had coffee and a pain au chocolat with friends at the Cinco Lounge this morning (not quite cake, but close it was freshly baked and warm from the oven). I always wonder why do we call it that in England? We don't name all the imported foods with their full other language names. Is it to help us practice being awkward when trying to pronounce French words. Do you go for the full French accent and sound pretentious or do you just wing it with a British one and sound a bit uneducated? I'm never quite sure but today I was saved from the stress of having to pronounce it as you can now order and pay at the table from an app on your phone, so I just had to click on it and say "yes please."
I fit in a 20 minute power nap this afternoon which is a lovely little luxury I do enjoy. I think everyone should have a nap time in their world. It's amazing how just that short time, really helps me feel awake again. Although I am always tempted to just keep sleeping. I think if I do end up with a conventional job again sometime in the future, I'm going to be like George in Seinfeld and set up a full blown nap space under my desk. I'm sure productivity would go up all over England if people could nap openly at work.
This evening I had my book club and half of us met in a space we rent in the town centre and the other half zoomed in. Our book this month was Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and I rather enjoyed it. It was so nice to see friends in real life and go out in the evening, something it feels like I haven't done for ages.
Morning, afternoon and evening were all good. IKEA however, did not deliver our furniture. We actually phoned them yesterday to check on the order and discovered that it had been cancelled by someone who worked there because the items weren't in stock. Sadly everyone involved forgot to tell us. I think the original guy must have cancelled the whole order, put the bed through to be delivered separately and then instead of putting the other furniture through, put another bed through. That's the only thing that makes any sense to me. Bizarrely no one had communicated that or thought to refund our money for the other furniture that was never going to arrive. We now have another £15.00 in vouchers and a refund on the way. I will be now driving to IKEA and praying that the items are in stock as I'm not sure I trust their stock checking system since it doesn’t appear to work even for them. Eventually, I'm sure we'll figure it all out and I just have to laugh about it because it's so ridiculous that even being named Karen can't help the situation.
I'll leave you with a quote from the book club book, “People don’t like these facts, but I can’t help that. If someone asks you how you are, you are meant to say FINE. You are not meant to say that you cried yourself to sleep last night because you hadn’t spoken to another person for two consecutive days. FINE is what you say.” Gail Honeyman
My photo for today is of me in my pj's propped up in bed. I'm pretty much asleep already so good night.
