I stumbled across this in my wandering through the web tonight:
"In order to be born, you needed:
2 parents
4 grandparents
8 great grandparents
15 second great-grandparents
32 third great-grandparents
64 fourth great-grandparents
128 fifth great-grandparents
256 six great-grandparents
512 seventh great-grandparents
1,024 eighth great-grandparents
2,048 ninth great-grandparents
For you to be born today from 12 previous generations, you needed a total of 4,094 ancestors over the last 400 years. Think for a moment -- how many struggles? How many battles? How many difficulties? How much sadness? How much happiness? How many love stories? How many expressions of hope for the future? -- did your ancestors have to undergo for you to exists in this present moment." (Link to the original here).
And this article which was a great reminder that we are all miracles. I think I need to remind myself of this sometimes as it's hard to forget just how amazing being alive is sometimes. It's inspiration for going trying to live my best life. Now that I know I'm a miracle, I just need to go out and live like one.
My quote for today is a poem by Suzy Kassem
“REMEMBER YOUR GREATNESS"
Before you were born,
And were still too tiny for
The human eye to see,
You won the race for life
From among 250 million competitors.
And yet,
How fast you have forgotten
Your strength,
When your very existence
Is proof of your greatness.
You were born a winner,
A warrior,
One who defied the odds
By surviving the most gruesome
Battle of them all.
And now that you are a giant,
Why do you even doubt victory
Against smaller numbers,
And wider margins?
The only walls that exist,
Are those you have placed in your mind.
And whatever obstacles you conceive,
Exist only because you have forgotten
What you have already
Achieved.
My photo for today is of my fabulous brother Phil and me. He's visiting us this weekend and I'm celebrating the miraculousness of having him as my brother as I'm sure the statistics for that are also crazy.
