Today was a crazy exhausting day for me. For some reason I couldn't sleep this morning and woke up at 5:00. I am not usually an early morning person and I lay in bed for almost an hour trying to go back to sleep. I don’t normally struggle to sleep and can usually sleep anywhere at any time so it was a frustrating way to start my morning.
At 7:00 I went to ASDA because I realized we had run out of cat food and I had four very hungry cats meowing around me when I went downstairs. I usually avoid ASDA as I really hate such a big shop (decision overload!) but it was actually rather peaceful at 7:00 in the morning. It had just opened and there were way more people who worked there than there were shoppers. It was fairly relaxing that time of day and I did feel rather accomplished to be home by 7:25 with all the shopping done. I'm not normally an early morning shopper!
Yesterday my lovely friend Joy dropped off some plums for us. They are perfectly ripe so I decided to Google a recipe to use them in. I found one for a plum cake that looked yummy, so I made it and stuck it in the oven. I do like to bake but can honestly say I don't think I've ever baked a cake before 8:00 am.
Next I tackled the garage. Our garage is a dumping ground at the moment for all the stuff I'm clearing out of the house. The tip is still not fully open and I haven't made it to the charity shops to donate a car load of possible treasures for other people and I have a small library of books I'm releasing back into the world. I needed to move stuff around in there as the overhead lights are getting replaced soon. I packed 6 bags of clothes into the car to take to the charity drop off point and shuffled things around so there was space to get to the areas that needed to be accessible.
I had to go to buy paint for my daughter Isla's bedroom. She couldn't decide on a colour yesterday so I said I would take her to B&Q today to the paint mixing station. When we got there we had to queue for 15 minutes as there were so many people wanting paint mixed. We were there for almost an hour because it took her so long to decide on a colour.
When I got home, I found out that my other daughter, Amity, needed to go to the urgent care centre at the hospital. She broke her leg last week and the temporary cast is still on and it cracked so had to be replaced. I bundled her in the car, drove to the hospital and spent the next two hours there getting that sorted out. Then we rushed back home and all went to IKEA.
IKEA is exhausting for me at the best of times (serious decision overload). I do love it but with Covid crazy mask rules and loads of people and two girls who wanted me to look at everything and take photos of all the things they might want to put in their rooms, I felt overwhelmed pretty quickly. By the time we got there it was after 5:00 pm as we have to drive an hour to the closest IKEA. After wandering through the whole showroom part we were all starving, but their restaurant had to be pre-booked and we didn't know that so we were out of luck eating there. We tried to hurry through the marketplace but there's a lot of exciting things to see in that part and by the time we made it out of the shop it was almost 8:00 pm. We decided to stop at McDonald's in Nottingham on the way home but the queue was so long it was actually out onto the main road and there were people lining up outside all around the building. We ended up just driving back to Grantham and going through the McDonald's drive through at 9:00 pm.
It's now past 10:00 pm and I can barely keep my eyes open. I know for most people this might be a minor day but for me it was completely exhausting. I'm feeling grateful I don't have to go to work first thing in the morning.
My quote for today is from Ingvar Kamprad, Founder of IKEA. “Making mistakes is the privilege of the active. It is always the mediocre people who are negative, who spend their time proving that they were not wrong.” – Ingvar Kamprad
Today's photo is of Amity in the hospital getting her new cast put on.
