I'm a bit of Brendan Burchard fan at the moment as I find his podcast one of the most helpful I've come across for making me think about things in an actionable way. Today was my dog walking day, so I listened to one of his podcasts on my stroll around the village with Tilly. It was such a good one, I've summarised it here but highly recommend listening to it if you have a new goal or project in your life. He goes through six ways to help you action your idea.
This is all taken from The Brendan Show, How to achieve an Action Mindset Episode 69.
Create a 30 minute daily block: If you have a goal or a dream you have to have a 30 minute block of time each day to work on it. New ideas must have new blocks of time. If you won't give something 30 minutes a day it doesn't matter to you. If something is important to you, you give it time. If you want it to come true, you have to give it at least 30 minutes a day.
Remember the first output rule: What's your first step? What's the first output that will take you on the path? Figure out your first output. You don't have to figure out where you're going to end up. Do the first output then you have momentum. If you don’t know the first output you don't even have a dream. A lot of creativity of life comes in motion not beginning in speculation.
Set yourself a 90 day challenge: Where are you in 90 days? Don't commit forever, but commit for 90 days. What can you accomplish in 90 days? Write it down and then commit to it.
Create a drop list of things you are going to stop doing to create time for the things you want to do: Every single month he creates a drop list on the first of each month to ensure he still has time to complete the things that matter most.
Friday friend status call: You need accountability and processing time with people. You need to have one person in your life who you talk to every week about where you're at. Big dreams require weekly check-ins. If you don't have a person you can do this with, he suggests using social media to publicly share what you have done that week towards your goals.
Create motivation triggers: Attach a statement to an action. When he goes through any doorway, he says to himself, "I am a happy man entering this space, ready to serve." You don't have to have the big fancy stuff to start serving. Have space triggers that help you stay at your best. If you're not triggering yourself, the world is doing it for you. He asks how are you triggering yourself to be your best? He also suggests using your phone as a trigger to be your best.
Now I'm off to figure out what my first output is as I'm still a little hazy on that.
I'm nicking Brendan's quote for today, "If you won't give something 30 minutes a day, it doesn't matter to you." This is a bit of a wake-up call as some of the things I say matter to me, don't actually get allocated 30 minutes a day. Yikes, I think it's time for an intentional re-look at how I'm spending my time. I feel a time audit coming on.
My photo for today is of Tilly, my fluffy friend who inspires me to stop and smell the roses while we walk.
