Karen Goes Camping

Despite my procrastination, we are actually situated and set up in our tent. It was pouring with rain earlier today but brightened up quite nicely this evening. Fortunately we bought a gazebo to cook under as our tent doesn't have a porch area. I love my family but camping with other people is just nicer and more motivational for me to keep trying to like it. The kids have other kids to play with and it's so nice to have adults to chat to after being in lockdown for so long and seeing people in limited amounts. My bed is only 20 mins away though, and the later it gets, the more I can feel it calling my name.

I have successfully navigated a spider infested toilet block and although the toilets aren't amazing, I've definitely used worse. It's weird but my favourite thing about camping is probably walking to the toilets in the dark. I'm not normally wandering through a field in darkness and tonight the stars are amazing. Even though there is quite a lot of light around, you can still see the stars clearly (shockingly it’s not cloudy) and I love looking at a night sky. One of my favourite songs is called That's Why God Made the Moon by John Elefante. I love it and camping always makes me feel close to God despite the fact that I don't love to camp. Perhaps it's the endless hours I spend praying to fall asleep as I really struggle to sleep without solid walls around me.

At the moment there's a dog barking in the pitch next to us and I can hear random stranger's conversations and the traffic from the road nearby. There's laughter and the noise of tents and zips and sleeping strangers and the hum of my electric heater. Yep I brought a fan heater with me, it's cold. The big question is will I fall asleep and how many times will I need to get up in the night? Will it rain and will my zebra onesie get soaked during my midnight trip to visit with the spiders?

My quote for today is: My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations. John Green

Today's photo is me and my zebra onesie because zebra's make the world a happier place.
